How Can You Help?

Seafaring has always been a passion of mankind. For centuries, the ocean has fueled our sense of adventure and taught us valuable lessons about survival and our connection to the environment. That premise - learning about ourselves through seafaring pursuits - is what the American Institute Of Marine Studies (AIMS) is all about. Founded over two decades ago, our mission is to enrich the lives of troubled teens, people with disabilities and others looking for direction in their lives.

Sailing Outreach
Watershed Experiences For At Risk Youth

AIMS has created a one-of-a-kind program called Sailing Outreach that gives at-risk and disadvantaged youths the chance to prove themselves in real-life situations. Using sailing as a means for personal growth, our staff and volunteers help students develop self esteem, confidence and a stronger moral compass. We take students on daily excursions introducing them to the fun and responsibilities of sailing. Then, students can complete a U.S. Sailing certification program taught by professional instructors.

1. Beginning Sailing

-Instructions for youths of all ages

-Afternoon cruises from local harbors

-Students become hands on crew members tying knots,
hoisting sails and taking the helm

-Certificate of completion

2. S.E.A. Program

-Community Service Projects

-Hands on education

-Extended marine adventure trips

-Academic credit granted

3. Daily Excursions

-Trips on salt or freshwater

-Boating safety instruction

-Basic navigation

-Local geography and history
